CEO, Orion Waste
Dean’s environmental industry experience spans more than 30 years. From his early days in sales at Browning Ferris Industries (BFI) to owning and operating his own waste collection business in the 1990’s which sold to Waste Management (WM), he did whatever it took to get the job done, including driver, welder, painter, accountant and dispatcher. Dean remained with WM for 14 years in a variety of positions and west coast geography’s until he made the decision to leave his role as Area VP for the Pacific Northwest in 2012.
Following WM, Dean worked in the used oil collection and refining business for a couple years until he was recruited to be the CEO of a private equity backed solid waste company, based in the Mid-Atlantic, called EnviroSolutions, Inc. (ESI). Over the next 3 years Dean and his team orchestrated an effective turnaround strategy the led to a successful sale process and acquisition by WM in 2018.
Immediately following ESI Dean was recruited as the CEO for Orion Waste Solutions, an underperforming, private equity solid waste collection business operating in 5 states throughout the Southeast and Midwest. Again, Dean, developed a team of seasoned industry professionals that worked tirelessly to build brand reputation, improve customer service and drive a profitable growth strategy. These efforts positioned Orion to initiate a formal sale process which is expected to close in late October 2021.
Dean is currently on the of the Board of Minnesota based LJP Waste Solutions and was a board member of Liberty Tire Recycling until it was sold earlier this year.
