CEO, VLS Environmental Solutions

John Magee has been the President and CEO of VLS Environmental Solutions since January 2020. VLS is the North American leader in delivering innovative environmental solutions that support clients in achieving their sustainability goals. The Waste Services division currently provides customized waste processing solutions for non-hazardous industrial commercial waste, including landfill diversion and sustainability programs, solidification of liquid waste, recycling, and wastewater treatment. While the Specialty Cleaning and Repair division specializes in high hazard railcar/marine tanker cleaning and repair, predominantly for the petrochemical industry. During his time at the helm, John has overseen the growth of VLS from 13 sites and $120M in revenue, to 36 sites and >$275M.  

Prior to VLS, John was the founder and CEO of Crane Worldwide Logistics, a global freight forwarding business headquartered in Houston, Texas.  During his 11 years of leading Crane Worldwide, the company organically grew to 120 offices in 30 countries, and just under $1B in annual revenue. John has more than 25 years of transportation industry experience. He began his business career in 1994 with Eagle Global Logistics (EGL) and was part of their growth into one of the largest global freight forwarding companies in the United States. After learning the business, John served in roles such as National Account Manager, Managing Director, Vice President of the South Pacific, Vice President of the U.K., Ireland and Benelux, and Senior Vice President of the South-Central U.S./Latin America region. He retired from the company upon its 2007 acquisition by CEVA Logistics and later took on the position of founding President and CEO of Crane Worldwide Logistics.

John was named the EY Entrepreneur of The Year™ 2014 Gulf Coast Area in the Manufacturing and Distribution division and is a member of YPO (Young Presidents Organization). His bachelor’s degree in Business Administration was conferred by the University of North Texas in 1994. John has been married to his wife, Sally, for 25 years and has 3 children, Adelaide, Camille, and Declan. In his free time, John enjoys traveling, spending time with his family and cooking.
