CEO, Mt. Diablo Resource Recovery

Kish Rajan has a 25-year track record of success in government and the private sector.

After graduating from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1993, he began his public sector career on Capitol Hill as an aide to Sen. Barbara Boxer and later to Phil Angelides, who went on to become California state treasurer.

Kish then built a 14-year career in the private sector as a business development executive in mobile telecommunications technology, managing vital business partnerships that created hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars in shareholder value.

During this time, he earned a J.D., started a family and served a term on the Walnut Creek City Council, becoming a Bay Area regional leader in economic development, transportation planning and advancing technology in government.

In 2012, Gov. Jerry Brown appointed Kish to lead the newly formed Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz). His directive was to enhance California’s job creation efforts by promoting statewide economic development, improving the business climate and fostering greater international trade. During his tenure at GO-Biz, California’s economy grew substantially, once again becoming the world’s seventh largest economy.

In 2015, Kish returned to the private sector to lead KRPA, a public affairs firm that developed and executed strategies fostering collaboration between businesses and government to modernize and grow California’s economy.

In 2019, he became chief administrative officer of Mt. Diablo Resource Recovery, where he helps lead the company, and the California waste management industry, in pursuing growth and achieving critical environmental objectives through innovation and forward thinking.
